The new 5G wireless technology has “fixed wireless”: The phones inside connect to a base station and antenna on an outside wall of a house. That antenna talks to the service provider’s antenna/infrastructure. This new tech is being used when the copper cabling on phone pole or underground are so damaged that the phone company can’t or find it is more financially appealing not to replace copper from homes to a central office that might be a mile or more away.
Control? Not exactly – it is always about finances.
